History of Our Team

The Alvin Jumperoos Rope Skipping Team was formed in 1985 to promote rope skipping as a sport in the Alvin, Texas area. The founder and director, Miss Helen Sealey, is a physical educator at Mark Twain Primary School in the Alvin Independent School District (AISD).

In 1987 Jumperoo membership was expanded to include students of Longfellow Elementary school and in 1989, membership was opened to all AISD students. In 1991, the Pure Energy division was added for students in Jr. High and up.

We are a private, non-profit amateur athletic organization consisting of student jumpers, parent volunteers, and the directors. Our goal is to teach and develop rope skipping skills, encourage scholastic ability, promote teamwork, and build self-confidence and self-esteem.

All of our directors, coaches, and parent volunteers serve without any compensation. All revenues raised through donations, fund raising activities, or our annual workshop are used for the benefit of our jumpers, primarily to purchase equipment and to partially defray camp and competition expenses.

Highlights of Our Past

1985 -- Jumperoos Team Founded by Helen Sealey
1987 -- Jumperoos Membership Expanded to Longfellow Elementary
1988 -- Became Affiliated with the International Rope Skipping Organization (IRSO)
1988 -- Attended Our First Workshop, Camp, and Competition
1989 -- Jumperoos Membership Opened to all AISD Students
1990 -- Edgar Dohmann became Assistant Coach & Director
1990 -- Hosted Our First Annual Workshop
1991 -- Pure Energy Division Added
1991 -- First Performance at Rice University which has become an annual event
1992 -- Performed at the Republican National Convention
1992 -- Began Assisting the American Heart Association as a Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) Demonstration Team
1993 -- Qualified Our First Jumper for Jr. Staff at Texas Jump Rope Camp
1994 -- Qualified Our First Jumper for the IRSO International Travel Team
1995 -- Became Affiliated with the United States Amateur Jump Rope Federation (USAJRF)
