The first TRIACS modules were introduced to the petrochemical industry in 1983 to significantly reduce the installation costs of a control system by eliminating the massive wiring normally required for conventional systems. In contrast, only a 4-wire power/data bus is required for the TRIACS system with very minimal local wiring between the individual modules and their control points or sensors.
Since the first TRIACS modules were installed, the product line has grown and significant additional features have been implemented. Currently over 3,000 TRIACS modules are in use in over 50 petrochemical and manufacturing installations throughout the United States. Each of these installations is a continuous 24-hour per day real-time control application.
The TRIACS modules utilize standard RS485 data communication with MODBUS or other standard protocols so they can be directly connected to virtually any industrial control system. This capability also allows the TRIACS modules to be installed on data highways with other manufacturers' I/O equipment. TRIACS modules can be installed as individual I/O modules or integrated into complete stand-alone control systems.
